Job Post: Safety Officer
Situated in the Piet Retief/Panbult area, ± 65 km from Piet Retief, Kangra Coal (Pty) Ltd. is a modern, mechanized mine. This Colliery has the following vacancy:
The ideal applicant will meet the following requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:
Grade 12
COMSOC 1 & 2, SAMTRAC
Relevant Safety Diploma will be advantageous
Blasting Certificate or Trade certificate
Computer literacy
English proficiency
Valid driver’s license
Valid certificate of fitness
Experience:
Minimum of 3 years relevant experience in the Health and Safety Department
Sound knowledge of risk management
Accident investigation skills (ICAM)
Knowledge of DMR requirements
Contractor management
Knowledge of relevant legislation
Knowledge of underground mining, opencast mining, and/or engineering works
Skills and abilities:
Ability to operate without supervision and be able to work under pressure
Be a self–starter and able to work according to deadlines
Integrity, reliability and ethical
Sound communication and interpersonal skills
Computer skills
Duties and Responsibilities:
Conducting safety audits, inspections and investigations
Compiling safety statistics and promoting safety culture
Hold legal appointment (Mineral Act Regulations 2.17.1 – 2.17.4)
Ensure adherence to all legislation as required by MHSA to ensure that Kangra stays in good stead with the authorities
Conduct regular H&S inspections as required in regulations 2.19.1 and 2.19.3.
Report accidents and occurrences to DMR (required reportable)
Conduct accident and critical incident investigation and report
Participate in the compilation of COPs, standards, and procedures and continuously update the documents
Assist and participate in the investigation of unsafe conditions when employees exercise their right as granted in Section 23 of the MHSA
