Industrious Vusi aims to upscale construction company
Vusi Thabethe's entrepreneurial mindset, influenced by his grandfather's business success, led him to establish Zamak Construction in 2019. Starting with fencing contracts for Kangra in 2022, Vusi expanded his services to include paving, lapa, and carport construction a year later.
“My interest in business comes from my upbringing because my grandfather owns a security company and a farming business. I worked closely with him, and he mentored me and taught me a lot,” says Vusi. His company has constructed fencing at three of Kangra’s sites, including Udumo, Block C and Uthingo (formerly Balgarthen).
The company was registered in 2019, shortly after Vusi left his previous job as a safety and security officer at the Water Affairs department in Mpumalanga. “I was determined to grow in the construction sector because I saw the potential,” he says.
So far, he has enjoyed a great working relationship with the mine and hopes to grow into getting longer-term contracts. Zamak Construction employs eight people, and Vusi wants to create more employment opportunities. “Long-term contracts will help my business grow. They will also bring stability for my employees,” he asserts.
