Rehabilitation project revitalises previously mined land

Phase 2 of the Block C Rehabilitation project underway at Kangra

Patches of grass have already begun to sprout, marking the successful completion of the initial phase of the Block C's rehabilitation project at Kangra. Block C was an opencast section that formed part of Kangra’s depleted Maquasa operations. Production at the pit ceased in May 2023 while the rehabilitation process happened concurrently with mining.

The rehabilitation process entails backfilling the mined area to restore it to its original topography. It also involves re-grassing the backfilled area to prevent soil erosion and allow surrounding ecosystems to thrive. Right from the outset, meticulous planning and budgeting were prioritised for the rehabilitation process, even before mining activities could start.
