Job Post: Geologist

The ideal applicant will meet the following requirements:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BSc (Hons) in Geology 

  • Registered with professional institute 

  • Code 08 driver’s license 

  • Medical Certificate of fitness 

  • English proficiency 

EXPERIENCE:

  •  5 – 8 years’ working experience in Geology in a Mining Industry

  • High level relevant experience in operational & exploration geology incl. drilling, grade control & geophysics

 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Implement Geological Management System 

  • Advise and consult with Mine Manager and the Management team on all Operational Geology issues 

  • Conduct legal Geological inspections and submit reports to management on deviations and good practices observed

  • Ensure that monthly statistical reports to the management team are submitted 

  • Consult with the Departmental of Mineral Resources and Mine Manager on all Geological matters

  • Follow up on Geological audit reports, action plans and incident reports

  • Input into mine planning processes

  • Technical valuation of coal deposits/ resources/reserves 

  • Conduct Geological due diligence on coal prospects 

  • Compile Prospecting Work Programmes 

  • Assist with the engagement with I&AP re EMP processes 

  • Provide professional geological consultancy to Kangra Coal to assist in the efficient, safe and profitable exploration of the ore bodies

  • Running exploration drilling programme incl. Logging of holes & Geotech 

  • Projects the geological structure from surface boreholes when necessary to permit optimum shaft sinking by using ore trends/grades/faults/dykes 

  • Provides surface geological plans (site investigation) when necessary to position surface installation and buildings 

  • Advises on adverse geological structures during underground shaft sinking to control shaft sinking

  • Do research when necessary to create understanding of the geology of the mine

  • Initiate planning and drilling of relevant prospecting operations when necessary to generate new coal ore reserves 

  • Investigate all structurally complex areas when necessary to generate new coal ore reserves

  • Analyse problems of evaluation and value trends when necessary to meet all the requirements by using his / her knowledge 

  • Investigate the economic potential of all the coal seams developed when necessary to generate new coal ore reserves

  • Updating of Geological Models 

  • Updating of Mining plans on regular intervals
