Job Post: Mine Overseer (Limited Duration Contract)

The ideal applicant will meet the following requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • At least a Grade 12 certificate.

  • Mine Overseer’s certificate.

  • Fiery mine blasting certificate.

  • Gas testing certificate.

  • Code 08 Drivers license & Computer efficient.                                

Experience:

  • At least 5 years underground mining experience (both Inbye and Outbye) with exposure to stonework, dykes, faults, low seam, conventional drill and blast, development and stooping, continuous miner development, and stooping.

  • Contractor management experience.

Skills and abilities:

  • Excellent communication, presentation, and facilitation skills.

  • Change management and business acumen skills.

  • Good communication.

  • Budget Control.

  • Human Resources management.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Management of the health and safety performance in the area of responsibility.

  • Planning of short-, medium- and long-term mining activities.

  • Management of production budget.

  • Management of personnel (attendance, leave, training, supervision, etc.), cost of production (rand/ton), and achieving or exceeding the production budgets.

  • Management of the lamp rooms and control room including all safety equipment that is used underground.

  • Control of all underground conveyor systems.

  • Control of operations and running of machinery as well as erection, re-erection, and removal of machinery underground.

  • Control the supply of ventilation to all areas underground and safety in all working areas including employees (shaft entrances and high walls by preventing water in rushes).

  • Management of receiving and issuing, use of explosives, and destruction of old explosives.

  • Control the utilisation of all surface buildings i.e., Change rooms and laundry, etc.

  • Submit daily production, machine availability, and employee attendance reports.

  • Perform a variety of tasks & Lead and direct the work of others.
